The shake weight isn't entirely bogus... it appears to utilise isotonic (static) contractions to promote muscular hypertrophy (muscle building). You're obviously not going to get a body like that of the men shown doing this exercise alone, and you're going to look like a complete moron in the process.
Personally, I'd try it if somebody gave me a free demo - some of these machines that use vibrations to increase the difficulty of isotonic contractions are surprisingly difficult and effective.
