@tron81 I agree with you about Clemson beating GT this year, but GT will have a better team this year than last year...mark my words...
GO TECH!!!

@bull864 for 8-4 I was thinking Clemson loses @Auburn, Miami, @FSU, and 1 more out of @BC, @UNC, and South Carolina. I don't see GT winning at Clemson this year in any case. No way the team wants the Bees to win yet again, and I don't think they'll be as good as last year.
For my feeling of a 10-2 season I was thinking loses @FSU and Miami.

@tron81 Your head is right. You will probably lose to Auburn, split Miami and Ga. Tech, split UNC and Florida State (at best) and split BC and South Carolina. That's four losses. For you to go 10-2, you would have to sweep Ga. Tech and Miami at home, beat both South Carolina and BC, win one vs UNC, Florida State, and Auburn and not slip up vs the rest of your schedule (NC St, Maryland, Wake) and do it without the big plays of Spiller and an unproven group of receivers. Very tall order.

@bull864 my head says Clemson will be 8-4 (5-3 ACC), but I feel like they'll surprise people and maybe be 10-2 (6-2 ACC) with a return trip to the ACC Championship Game.

@tron81 yeah, swinney is a good recruiter, no doubt. Just don't know if he can coach. I like the defensive Coordinator though.
Spiller was special, definitely can't be replaced. Give me a record for you guys this year.
Posted by tron81 on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 1:59am
@bull864 it's hard to have confidence in a redshirt freshman. You just don't know what you're going to get. Even if he's good you'll still get some mistakes, just like with Parker last year. From everything I've heard Boyd will be ready to take over next year.
I agree that this is a big year for Swinney to show what he can do without Spiller & Ford. He was the guy on staff who recruited Spiller, btw.
I have a ton of confidence in the RBs "replacing" Spiller. Not quite as good, but who is?
Posted by bull864 on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 1:01am
@tron81 I'm glad you have confidence in Boyd because Swinney doesn't. He had to beg Parker to come back because he knows Boyd isn't the answer.
Yeah, i would give Swinney a few years but he needs to prove himself this year with Spiller gone. Spiller and Ford both were big play guys who flipped field position if nothing else. Clemson doesn't have guys who can take it to the house anymore.
I'm not a GT fan but I will tell you Johnson will have a QB ready when Nesbitt is gone. bank on it.
Posted by tron81 on Monday, August 30, 2010 at 12:06am
@bull864 actually Swinney was an insurance salesman. ;) He's proven enough for me in 1.5 seasons to give him a chance. That's about all you can say about any coach except a few like Nick Saban.
He won't get fired at 8-4 or even 7-5. Remember this will be only his 2nd year as coach. You usually give them at least 4-5 years.
Well next year Neisbitt at GT is gone too. He is the one that really makes that option offense work. Do you have as much confidence in your next QB as I have in Boyd?
Posted by bull864 on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 11:29pm
@tron81 Really? You would rather have a used-car salesman than a proven head coach who has won everywhere he has been? I'll make you a promise. Swinney will be fired before Johnson. I say that because Clemson is probably going 7-5 or maybe 8-4 this year. GT will go 9-3 at worst. Clemson would have been a 6-6 team if Parker hadn't come back. Next year he is gone so Clemson has to find someone to play QB and doesn't have a CJ Spiller to make big plays and flip field position. You will see.

@bull864 I honestly rather keep Swinney than have Johnson. Like I said, Johnson is a one-trick pony. He's great at coaching and adjusting his triple option offense, but that's all. Recruiting and defense have been mediocre, at best, since he came to GT.
The environment for TCU wasn't all that hostile. There was a torrential rain storm during the game that made what Clemson fans who stayed a lot more subdued than they otherwise would have been.
Posted by bull864 on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 9:58pm
@tron81 TCU went on the road and beat Clemson in a hostile environment. Clemson fans say "almost" and "lucky" a lot now. TCU was lucky to beat you. ok. Georgia Tech was "lucky" to beat you six of their last seven. Wow.
Paul Johnson dominated and Georgia Southern and brought Navy from a nothing to a bowl team every year. Give him credit. He is a great coach. Let me ask you, would you rather have Swinney or Johnson as your coach?
Posted by tron81 on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 9:52pm
@bull864 Johnson won the first two years at GT using 4-star players recruited by the previous coach like Neisbitt, Dwyer, Morgan, and Thomas. 3 of them are in the NFL now. He's not replacing them with similar talent. He's going to be just like Friedgen at Maryland. Win with someone else's players the first few years then tank.
TCU wins because they play a weak schedule. Clemson almost beat them last year with a first year QB and first year coaching staff. TCU was very lucky.
Posted by bull864 on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 8:45pm
@tron81 Johnson is one of the top 10 coaches in the country. He can afford not to recruit as well as Clemson and still dominate the series because he is heads-and-shoulders above Dabo Swinney. You think Peterson at Boise State or Patterson at TCU are recruiting as well as Texas or Florida? Coaching makes three star players four or five star players. Ask Frank Beamer.
Blaming the refs is weak. Georgia Tech has simply been better the last few years.
Posted by tron81 on Sunday, August 29, 2010 at 4:10pm
@bull864 GT has been incredibly lucky over the past several Clemson games. Luck plus phantom holding calls by the same cheating ACC ref. Their luck runs out this year.
With how poorly GT coach Johnson is recruiting compared to the previous coach if Clemson wins in 2010 they might just go on a nice streak until Johnson is fired.
